Protecting Mission-Critical Manufacturing with Real-Time Monitoring
How Vention Medical uses continuous monitoring to prevent equipment failures that could compromise FDA-approved clean room conditions.

Note: This case study reflects Verdigris's earlier work in manufacturing. See below for how this technology applies to AI data centers.
The Challenge
Vention Medical is a global leader in complex medical device design development, manufacturing, and assembly. With 13 facilities and FDA-approved clean room requirements, Vention needed a reliable system to detect equipment degradation before it could compromise sensitive manufacturing environments.
A single HVAC failure in a clean room can contaminate materials, halt production, and require costly remediation. Standard monitoring systems only alert after problems occur, too late for mission-critical operations. Vention needed proactive detection to protect their manufacturing environments and meet increasingly stringent sustainability requirements from hospital customers.
The Approach
Vention selected their Sunnyvale facility, which includes FDA-regulated clean rooms, for the proof-of-concept test. They wanted to learn how to best prevent downtime for important equipment such as HVAC, which could jeopardize FDA-approved clean room conditions, contaminate materials, and ultimately increase production costs.
Verdigris quickly installed proprietary hardware and was immediately able to showcase data from Vention’s lighting and HVAC systems. Vention team members viewed their energy data with an online dashboard, and also received custom monthly reports to highlight energy trends and uncover inefficiencies.
Working together, Verdigris provided depth of data and breadth of actionable recommendations that audiences across the company understood. Verdigris’ advanced data tracking provided Vention an example of how to get ahead of increased reporting requirements from their buyers.
The Results
Verdigris deployed quickly without disrupting facility operations, providing immediate visibility into equipment health. The system now alerts Vention to equipment anomalies in real-time, before they can impact clean room conditions.
Key outcomes:
- Proactive equipment monitoring. Real-time alerts on HVAC and critical system performance.
- Zero unplanned clean room compromises. Early detection prevents contamination events.
- $3,000+ annual savings. Bonus outcome from identifying billing inefficiencies.
"What I found useful was the dashboard and the continuous monitoring. Yours was down to the detail," said Jim O'Brien, Sunnyvale Operations Project Manager. "It was good to know that my hunches of savings or wasting can be monitored."
What's Next?
Now on track to save $3,000 a year, Vention sees savings applications in all its global facilities.
With Verdigris' real-time data, companies like Vention can gain greater insight into achievable sustainability goals. Whether it's starting with low-hanging fruit or progressing along deeper savings, Verdigris helps companies reach their sustainability and cost savings goals.
Why This Matters for AI Data Centers
Vention Medical's challenge (detecting equipment degradation before it impacts FDA-approved clean room conditions) mirrors the reliability demands of AI infrastructure:
- Mission-critical uptime. Contaminated clean rooms can destroy entire production batches. Electrical anomalies in data centers can corrupt GPU training jobs worth $10K to $100K per hour.
- Sub-second detection requirements. Medical device manufacturing needs detection before standard monitoring catches problems. AI workloads with rapid load transitions have the same requirement.
- Proactive vs. reactive maintenance. Vention needed to prevent downtime, not respond to it. AI operators face the same imperative.
The same monitoring technology that protects Vention's sensitive manufacturing environments now protects AI training infrastructure from electrical degradation below standard alarm thresholds.
